Politicians will forever remain same in whatever circumstances. Their actions and inactions are the same, irrespective of their political affiliations, and they don’t seem to have any remorse about this tendency come what may.
But for Senator Tokunbo Afikuyomi, he is not surprising anyone with his dilly-dallying approach to changing camps at any given time like a chameleon. Incontrovertible reports have it that unrepentant Afikuyomi has allegedly broken ranks with his godfather, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, declaring himself as self independent ahead of the 2019 general elections. Afikuyomi, who is widely known as one of the closest allies of All Progressives Congress (APC) National Leader, Tinubu, may not be getting his bearing, if what he just declared is anything to go by. Though the rumour mills have been agog with the news that Afikuyomi was unhappy at the way incumbent Lagos State Governor, Akinwinmi Ambode was treated by the party, but no one could confirm officially what was amiss until the recent outburst of the Senator. Like the characteristic politician, Senator Afikuyomi thanked everyone and wished those good tidings and a successful 2019 before dropping the bombshell. Fearlessly and unperturbed, he made bold to say that he is now an Independent Service Provider. What an affront to a platform that has always provided a soft landing for a man, who was virtually in oblivion before he was picked up from the gutters, only for him to dump his benefactor. The implication of this is massive because Afikuyomi has always been in the engine room and on Tinubu’s side since this democratic dispensation began in 1999. With this statement, it means the politician has officially declared that he may work against APC in 2019.
