Octogenarian and doyen of macharnt cum commercial bankkng; Otunba Michael Olasubomi Balogun, CON, founder of First City Group, is man of proven and immense wealth, a lover of humanity and an embodiment of philanthropy, whose milk of humane kindness, like an inestimable fountain, has endlessly flowed to whet parched throats and soothe frayed nerves across the land. He is to this extent highly regarded, respected and honoured in the society.
Otunba Balogun’s philanthropic activities cut across many spheres of the society and transcend ethnic, social and religious boundaries, with a devotion of a substantial chunk of his private resources towards the care and service of not just the less privileged but also to humanity as a whole.
The man, whom many describe as a man of excellence, integrity, and an exemplary leader; again played his usual major role at the last Ojude Oba Festival, which has the blessing of prominent indigenes who always rally round the symbol of the annual feast, the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, CON.
The FCMB progenitor, was a star sponsor and expectedly highly visible persona at the all-embracing carnival of all Ijebu sons and daughters, at home and in Diaspora, beginning with an imposing billboard welcoming attendees to Ojude Oba 2016, to branding across the entire Ijebu-Ode town and the exclusive Ankara fabric worn by the FCMB delegates; the Bank truly added colour to this year’s festival in a unique way. FCMB has explained that its continuous support for the Ojude Oba Festival is borne out of its commitment to celebrating and preserving Nigeria’s cultural heritage, while also boosting the tourism sector, in line with the government’s ongoing drive to diversify.
The Olori Omo-Oba of Ijebuland added that ‘Ojude Oba is a world-rated carnival; which is comparable to ‘Rio De Janeiro’ because Ojude-Oba started way back when I used to climb the horse, I was younger and I used to herald my grandfather and you could see my younger cousin, Olorogun Sunny Kuku dancing and cheering on the Balogun/Kuku family and Ojude Oba festival is one that every Ijebu person looks forward to.
