When a man repeats a promise again and again, he means to fail you. It's therefore useless to hold that person to anything he says while he's in love, drunk, or running for office. Promises may fit the friends, but non-performance will turn them into enemies. There is no greater fraud than a promise not kept.
This could well be forming the basis of this piece about the bitter loss which once gregarious Adebayo Adelabu suffered in the last governorship election in Oyo State. Since that bitter and excruciating loss, the former CBN Deputy Governor has been sulking and has remained inconsolable, as if his entire life depended on victory at the polls. That aside, what people are now saying is how he will pro-actively carry on with his pet-child, Bayo Adelabu Foundation, BAF, which he used to campaign rigorously prior to the election, promising heaven and earth for the beneficiaries of the foundation and even more if and when he becomes the Governor. But now that he has lost, albeit gallantly, one begins to wonder what will happen to his many children, who have hinged their hopes on the largesse that would readily come their way from their ‘father’, who has since not gotten himself since he suffered that loss. Recall that before the elections, under the auspices of his non-governmental organization, Bayo Adelabu Foundation, (BAF), he drew a spectacle at the last but one Children’s Day celebration which took place at the BAF Secretariat, Jericho, Ibadan, where he gathered over 300 children from different public schools and gifts of different shapes and sizes were randomly distributed to the children as they all milled around the gregarious Adelabu, who was obviously enthralled to be in the midst of the children on such an audacious event. What is the fate of these children now?
