The saying that it takes a strong man to be a father, and even a stronger man, to be a grieving father; the act of being a good father starts with his ever presence.
This was the exact role played out by the number one citizen of Lagos, the executive governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, recently, when he drew a spectacle at the last Children’s Day celebration, which took place at the Lagos House, Ikeja, Lagos. At the quadruple event that consisted of the third-year celebration of his government’s administration, 51st anniversary of Lagos state, Democracy Day and the May 27 Children’s Day, it was an event cumulated together for the state and all inhabitants. The evening acknowledged the efforts of exceptionally talented children and youths in contributing to the excellence, which the state is known for, saying they deserved to be commended and celebrated. Always as ever in his unflinching and selfless attitude of giving back to the society at large, the man of the moment and relentless philanthropist, Governor Ambode was in his element again, when he gathered over hundreds of children from different backgrounds in celebration of the worldwide children’s day. He described the children in the State as the most cherished assets of his administration; the Governor said any nation desirous of realizing its full potential could not afford to toy with its youth, which according to him, was why deliberate policies were put in place to support them to use their talents for the benefit of the State. Gifts of different shapes and sizes were randomly distributed to the children, as they all milled around the gregarious governor, who was obviously enthralled to be in the midst of the children on such an audacious event. It was indeed a memorable and unforgettable moment that was filled with funfair and jollification.
