Just when it is still being believed by many that the wedding of Mrs. Folorunsho Alakija, Africa’s richest woman’s son in London was and is still the most expensive wedding of all time, this was laid to rest days back, when anther world richest man from Africa, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, wowed many with the supra class wedding of her daughter, Fatimah to Jamal, son of former, Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar.
The three-legged nuptial will never have its equivalent in terms of class, panache and opulence. The wedding first held in Kano, and the train moved to Kaduna, only for the bourgeois wedding to move to Lagos yesterday for another talk-of-the-town marriage that had in attendance super dignitaries from all the continents of the world, likes of Microsoft founder and world’s second richest man; Bill Gates, President Akufo Addo of Ghana, Mo Ibrahim, the Sudanese-British billionaire businessman, the movers and shakers of the Nigerian Political and Social Establishment and many other dignitaries. Notable among the dignitaries were; wife of Nigeria’s President, Hajiya Aisha Buhari, the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo and wife, Dolapo, Senator Bukola Saraki and wife, Toyin, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, General Yakubu Gowon, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and wife, Senator Oluremi, 22 Governors, Ministers, captains of industries and society figures. Besides the glitterati that accompanied the wedding, Alhaji Dangote was able to prove to the whole world that his pre-eminence in the industrial world is not a fluke, given the array of guests that made it a point of duty and honour to grace the event; not forgetting that the father of the groom, was also a VVIP in his own right and appreciable clout. What can you say about an event that took place in Nigeria and Microsoft’s founder, Bill Gates, flew in from America to witness it? The alarming and very jerking point at the mouth-gaping wedding was the humongous gifts that came to play for the couple viz a total number of 106 state-of-the-art vehicles and other paraphernalia of gifts that flooded the three wedding venues. Dangote’s bosom friend and bride’s god father, Femi Otedola, was to seal the bouquet of gifts when he announced at the wedding that the couple, on his expense, should proceed to any part of the world of their choice, for their honey moon for one month. The fairy-tale wedding will continue to blow the mind of those who were privileged to be part of any leg of the wedding, as their memories will linger.
