The Speaker of the Finnish Parliament, Mrs. Paula Risikko recently hosted a delegation from Lagos State House Assembly, at the Parliament of Finland in Helsinki.

The delegation which was led by the Speaker, Lagos State House Assembly Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa was on a week-long study visit to Finland to learn about the Finnish education system. Explaining how the Finnish education works, the Speaker of the Finnish Parliament told the delegation that she was actually a teacher before her political career.

According to her, “well-educated teachers are the basis of a good quality education system.”

She noted that contacts between the two countries in recent times had become more frequent, especially at Ministerial level, and that she hoped that the same would happen between Parliaments as well.

The leader of the Nigerian delegation hinted that the visit was part of the Lagos State Government’s efforts at improving its education system, adding that they wanted to learn from the successes of Finland in creating one of the best education systems in the world.
