The saying that it takes a strong man to be a father and even a stronger man to be a grieving father; the act of being a good father starts with his ever presence and the was exactly the role played out by one of the popular sons of the soil in the ancient city of Ibadan, Oyo State, and Deputy Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria (Operations Directorate), Oloye Adebayo Adelabu penultimate Saturday.
Under the auspices of his non-governmental organization, Bayo Adelabu Foundation, (BAF), he drew a spectacle at the last Children’s Day celebration which took place at the BAF Secretariat, Jericho, Ibadan. Always as ever in his unflinching and selfless attitude of giving back to the society at large, the man of the moment and relentless philanthropist, Oloye Bayo Adelabu was at his element again, when he gathered over 300 children from different public schools in celebration of the worldwide celebrated day in honour of children. Gifts of different shapes and sizes were randomly distributed to the children as they all milled around the gregarious Adelabu, who was obviously enthralled to be in the midst of the children on such an audacious event. It was indeed a memorable and unforgettable moment that was filled with funfair and jollification. The Adebayo Adelabu-sponsored foundation organized quiz competitions, talent hunts among other activities to spice up the day, which treated the children to an unforgettable celebration. This charitable gesture will not be the first time that the foundation will be identifying with the masses, especially the long suffering ones. As a reminder, despite Oloye Adelabu’s privileged background, he never went to a bourgeois private school, but like these children, he attended a public primary school, Lagelu Primary School, Ibadan, and the more reason he had to identify with them on the day. ‘Years ago, I was just like you, a pupil of a public school, and I never regretted any single moment of my stay in the school, so I urge you all to take full advantage of all the opportunities offered you at your different schools, and I promise to make this event an annual one, all things being equal, and God by my side’, said an enthusiastic Adelabu, who danced and rolled with the children all through the entertaining event.
