The Ogun State governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has assured residents of Ogun State especially those living in areas where a spate of violence, robbery attacks and related crimes has been recorded, not to lose sleep or take the law into their hands as the situation is effectively under control.
There had been a groundswell of unrest in areas such as, among others, Matogun, Agbado, Sango, Ijoko and Ifo in the wake of the COVID-19 lockdown order by President Muhammadu Buhari
In a statement signed by the governor, he declared that he had received reports from the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Kenneth Ebrimson, and other security agencies and that the situation has been substantially brought under control.
“We have taken decisive steps to deal with the criminal elements that punctured the peace and security enjoyed by the residents. The residents are, hereby, assured that we are not shying away from our responsibilities to protect lives and property,” the governor stated.
He added, “We wish to assure the entire citizenry of adequate security and our dedication to their safety. We urge everyone not to panic as the situation is under control.”
While also assuring that he is communicating round-the-clock with all relevant security agencies and that he had mandated them, especially the state command of the Nigeria Police to ensure that law and order is enforced in the affected areas and the entire state, the governor promised that his administration will crush and flush out robbery and civil unrest in the state.
Governor Abiodun urged residents to keep safe in their respective homes while they observe the lockdown against COVID-19.
