As the cloud of dust that is raised by the last weekend’s presidential and NASS polls continues to settle gradually, new fact and insight as to how the election is won and lost by some top politicians have begun to emerge.
The latest of such revelation is how former governor of Akwa Ibom state governor, Godswill Akpabio lost his bid to return to the senate for second time.
National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Adams Oshiomhole on Thursday said that defeat suffered by Akpabio was not a true reflection of the people's will but a product of conspiracy between INEC and the Akwa Ibom state government.
Oshiomhole made the disclosure during a press conference in Abuja.
He said the electoral umpire purposely employed government officials as election agents with instructions to manipulate result and deliver victory to PDP candidates.
Oshiomhole added that elections in Akwa Ibom state were neither credible nor transparent, stating that the APC has proof to substantiate it claims of altered figures of senatorial election results that affected the former Minority leader of the Nigerian Senate.
His said “Akpabio was rigged in the last week’s elections. How would one explain altered figures against Akpabio which we have in our custody?
“The Independent National Electoral Commission in Akwa Ibom employed Akwa Ibom state officials as electoral officers who manipulated figures against opponents.
“They keep manipulating and adjusting figures until they are satisfied that Akpabio was defeated before submitting results to INEC"
Oshiomhole, however, noted that the result will be contested, adding that the APC had already petitioned INEC, expressing optimism that with time, justice would prevail in the matter.
