Gospel singer of more than three decades, Funmi Aragbaye has merged as the new president of the Gospel Music Association Of Nigeria GOMAN.
In a tight contest held Thursday night in Lagos between founder of Karis Band, Reverend Ekpenyong Bassey, Funmi Aragbaye and the incumbent deputy president, Evangelist Philip Olayiwola (Pholat), Aragbaye won with 47 votes as Ekpenyong and Pholat trailed with a distant 21 votes and 20 votes respectively.
This development ushers a new era as Funmi Aragbaye and King Femi Opalemo, her deputy president lead the gospel music association for the next three years into its desired haven. The singer whose music has been showing continually on Africa Magic Yoruba channel for three years takes the rein from Evang. Timi Orokoya aka Telemi. In her acceptance speech, she congratulated all her co-contestants and sought the support of the other elected executives and members of the association. “I give glory to almighty. This is a time for us to work and work harder to move GOMAN forward. I’ll be unfolding programs that will lift up young and unknown artistes within our fold and attract investment into GOMAN. With God’s help and your support, our association wont remain the same again”, says Aragbaye.
About eighty-nine delegates from different states including the northern states voted in the election. Other elected executives of the thirty-four year association include Dr Lanre Teriba as VP West, Pastor Paul Ayodele as VP North, Florence Arowolo as Treasurer, Niyi Ajagbe as Asst. General Secretary, Evang. Yemi Gbadeyan as Auditor, Pastor Tunde Ayodele as Welfare Officer, Olubayo Bankole as Financial Secretary and Gabriel Olatunde as General Secretary.
Those who witnessed the change of guard include Evang Akin Adebayo aka Imole Ayo, Timi Orokoya and other distinguishe guests.
