Nigerian veteran actor and dramatist, Joseph Abiodun Babatunde Adu, popularly known as JAB Adu, is dead.
Renowned for his role as ‘Bassey Okon’ in the popular Nigerian Television Authority, NTA Drama series, ‘The Village Headmaster’, has been contending with illness associated with old age.
Adu also featured in some other interesting movies such as, Cool Red (1976), Bisi, Daughter of the River (1977) and Wetin Dey (2007), playing actor and producer respectively Adu was born in Calabar, Cross River, on December 28, 1932, but he started his primary education in Lagos when his father relocated from Calabar to Lagos. He attended St. Gregory’s College, Obalende, Lagos, between 1941 and 1946.
He worked at the British Bank for West Africa (BBWA) now First Bank Plc before he travelled to Britain where he studied Banking at the Westminster City College, London and graduated as an Associate of the Institute of Bankers (A.I.B) United Kingdom. Before his acting career kick-started, he was a banker with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), a time that also saw him combining banking with acting. He was aged 83
