The wife of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Osun State, Dr. Sekinat Oyebamiji, donated solar-powered streetlights to residents of Alajue 2, Ward 5, in Ede South Local Government Area.

The gesture was aimed at improving security and support community development in the community.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Oyebamiji, disclosed that the donation was done under the AMBO Light Up Osun Initiative.

She said the solar streetlight project reflected her husband’s commitment to grassroots development and improving infrastructure in communities across Osun State.

She said the initiative was designed to enhance security, encourage economic activities and provide a safer environment for residents and road users, adding that more community-based interventions would be implemented across the state if the APC wins the August 15 governorship election.

Earlier, Executive Chairman of Ede South Local Government, Hon. Kolawole Salami, commended the initiative, saying the project would positively impact the lives of residents of Alajue and adjoining communities.

According to him, the installation of the solar streetlights would improve public safety, stimulate commercial activities at night and complement ongoing efforts aimed at improving the welfare of the people.”

The Nation however recalled that the convoy was attacked shortly after she left a voters education at Alajue, Ward 2 in Ede South Local Government Area of Osun State on Sunday night with the wife of deputy candidate, Princes Adebukola Adereti.

Meanwhile, on Monday, APC alleged that two of its members were attacked in separate incidents in Ede, accusing hoodlums allegedly affiliated with the Accord Party of carrying out the assaults.

“We are appealing to the state Commissioner of Police to investigate and arrest the masterminds and foot soldiers behind these violent attacks, as democracy cannot thrive in a violent environment,” the statement read.

The party also alleged that one of its members, Abideen Oyetunde of Sekona in Ede South Local Government Area, narrowly escaped death after he was reportedly attacked at his residence on Sunday evening.

According to the APC, Oyetunde sustained severe head injuries and a gunshot wound after being allegedly assaulted by armed men.

The APC accused the Accord Party and Governor Ademola Adeleke of creating an atmosphere of political violence ahead of the August 15 governorship election, alleging that the ruling party had “militarised” the electoral process.
