Ayobo-Ipaja chairman mobilises residents for monthly sanitation exercise

The Chairman of Ayobo-Ipaja Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Dr Lukmon Agbaje, has mobilised community stakeholders ahead of the reintroduction of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise by the Lagos State Government.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the exercise, reintroduced by Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is scheduled to begin on Saturday, April 25, as part of efforts to promote cleaner communities across the state.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ engagement in the council area on Thursday in Lagos, Agbaje called for active participation from residents, noting that grassroots mobilisation would be key to the success of the programme.
He said the meeting provided an opportunity to align on implementation strategies and strengthen community ownership of the initiative.
“Stakeholders are expected to contribute practical ideas and support community mobilisation to ensure effective participation,” he said.
The council chairman stressed that environmental cleanliness required shared responsibility between the government and residents.
“We cannot build a prosperous LCDA on a foundation of filth. Cleanliness reflects our values and collective responsibility,” he said.
Agbaje added that the success of the sanitation exercise would depend on sustained cooperation at the community level.
The Supervisor for Environment in the LCDA, Mr Okeowo Olabode, said the engagement would help improve public awareness and encourage compliance with the exercise.
He noted that continuous sensitisation would support behavioural change and strengthen enforcement efforts.
Also, the Chairman of the Community Development Committee (CDC), Mr Joseph Olokede, assured full support from community-based organisations for the initiative.
He said Community Development Associations (CDAs) and the CDC were committed to ensuring effective participation across the LCDA.
Olokede added that preparations had begun and urged residents to take responsibility for cleanliness within their homes and surroundings.
He expressed optimism that sustained community effort would position Ayobo-Ipaja as a model for environmental cleanliness in Lagos State. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
