Despite the woes Nigeria Dream team VI emerged the U-23 African Champions after defeating Algeria at the final of the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations in Senegal.
It all started with Samson Siasia and the Team escaping plane crash as if that was not enough the team Head coach’s mother was kidnapped back home in Bayelsa but was released days after prior to the commencement of the competition.
These were enough distractions for the team but more even happened during the African Championship as the Football Federation did not pay the squad match bonuses, many also lost faiths in the team when they conceded cheap goals in their first two games and were not convincing with their style of play.
The Dream team VI are not just the U-23 African Champions they also qualified for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil after defeating Senegal in the Semi-final.
Players and officials of the victorious U-23 National Team which lifted the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations will arrive the country on Monday. The team is expected to arrive at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos at 9am and expected to board another flight to Abuja.
The Siasia-led team has emerged the first Nigerian side to win the championship after defeating Algeria two goals to one in Dakar.
