Aubameyang Reveals Problem Was With Mikel Arteta

03 February, 2022

Exiled former Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang joined Barcelona as a free agent two months after being stripped of the Arsenal captaincy by Arteta due to a disciplinary breach.

The Gabonese was cast aside by Gunners boss Mikel Arteta following a disciplinary breach in early December and was not seen in an Arsenal shirt since the humiliating 2-1 defeat by Everton in december

Aubameyang has laid the blame solely on Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta for his painful exit from the club. The 32-year old was unveiled as a Barcelona player on Thursday after he joined on a free transfer until 2025. Aubameyang left Arsenal after agreeing on a mutual termination of his contract.

Spanish La Liga giants Barcelona  unveiled Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The 32-year-old was unveiled at Camp Nou on Thursday, February 3, 2022.

While speaking at his first Barcelona press conference on Thursday, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang said, "I think the problem was only with him [Arteta] and he made the decision. I can't say much, he wasn't happy and that's it. It happened like that. He wasn't very happy. I stayed very calm and that's it. Those were difficult months but I think that's how football is sometimes. For my part, I have never wanted to do something wrong and now I think that this is the past and I want to think about the present and right now that is my answer."

The former Arsenal captain has put pen to paper on a contract until 2025, but there is the option for the two to part ways in 2023. His release clause is 100 million euros. Aubameyang has now been registered and is eligible to make his debut for Barcelona when they face rivals Atletico Madrid in a La Liga clash scheduled for Sunday, February 6, 2022.
