Mr Olufemi Daniel, the Chairman Itire–Ikate Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has said that he has deployed midnight truck evacuation to remove indiscriminate dumping of refuse within the community.

The Newsmen reports that the council has embarked on a cleaner, healthier and safer environment, following the huge volume of waste illegally dumped along major roads within the LCDA.

Daniel in an interview with the newsmen on Tuesday said that the LCDA has taken a proactive stand against environmental challenge, as two Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) trucks have been deployed to the affected location overnight.

According to him, the first truck arrived at approximately 11:30 p.m., while the second arrived at 12:00 midnight as both trucks were fully loaded with the waste before departing the area at approximately 1:30 a.m.

” During these midnight evacuations the council’s Supervisor for Environment, Mr Omoniyi Akintewe, was physically present throughout the night to receive and supervise the LAWMA team.

“We ensure that the evacuation operation was completed successfully and prevent further indiscriminate waste disposal,” he said.

The chairman also reaffirmed his administration’s determination to protect the environment and maintain the cleanliness of the LCDA.

He said that his administration would not fold its arms and watch indiscriminate waste disposal undermine the health, safety and dignity of the residents.

“We will continue to respond swiftly wherever environmental challenges arise. A clean Itire–Ikate is not merely a slogan; it is a responsibility we have accepted, and we are determined to deliver on it,” he added.

He called on residents, traders, motorists and other stakeholders to take ownership of their environment by disposing of waste responsibly and using approved waste disposal channels.

“The government cannot do this alone. We need the cooperation of every resident. When we keep our environment clean, we protect our children, safeguard public health and make our communities better places to live and work.

“We urge everyone to join us in this important responsibility as the council has also confirmed two additional LAWMA trucks to continue the evacuation exercise and further clear the affected area,” he said.

The chairman applauded the prompt intervention and dedication of the LAWMA personnel, as well as the commitment of the Supervisor for the environment who remained on ground throughout the night to ensure the operation was successfully executed.

The council boss said that his administration was committed to ensure environmental sanitation remained a priority.

He added that efforts would continue to keep roads, streets and public spaces across the LCDA clean, safe and conducive for residents and businesses.(NAN)
