Court Revokes N2m Fine On Immigration’s Legal Adviser

07 February, 2022

A Federal High Court in Abuja has revoked the N2 million fine imposed on the Legal Adviser of the Nigerian Immigration Service, Jimoh Abdulkadir Adamu, over alleged disobedience to an order of the court.

The order was reversed by Justice Inyang Eden Ekwo, following detailed explanations that the seized passport of former Rivers state governor, Dr Peter Odili has been returned to the owner since December 20, 2021.
Justice Ekwo discharged the penalty order made on December 21, 2021, having been convinced that the penalty order ought not to have been made.
The judge was told that Odili’s lawyer, Chief Ifedayo Adedipe SAN, misled the court into imposing the fine by hoarding information regarding the release of the passport.
The court also reversed another order directing the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami SAN, to take further punitive action against the Immigration legal adviser.
