He is known to be a blunt and fearless preacher on the pulpit at his Akilo, Ogba, Ikeja, Lagos-based church, but his recent outburst that God has instructed him to run for the Presidency of the nation is being viewed in many quarters as a tall and pipe dream. Outspoken Pastor Tunde Bakare of the Latter Rain Assembly said he is about set to lock horns with other politicians for presidential race at God’s appointed time. Recall that the lawyer-turned-preacher, was a Vice Presidential candidate to incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari, and now he says he has been directed by God to contest. He said God has told him not to end his political career as he had earlier contemplated. He said God told him to run for the Presidency. He made this disclosure in the early hours of the New Year during the crossover service at his church. ‘’Contesting the presidential election of one of the 12 things God revealed would happen in 2018, but God had not told him when the “appointed time” to run for the presidency would be. “This twelfth one is a difficult one for me. It may draw excitement or condemnation. In my study around 4 a.m. on Sunday morning, God told me ‘you cannot bring your political career to a close; there is still more to do. Run for the Presidency! I will do it at the appointed time.” Corroborating his averment, Bakare said, “In 1998, I told you that I saw your President dying between two women. Did it happen? I’m telling you again: some of these political juggernauts will fall at the feet of women and you will see it happen.” Curiously enough, many are wondering how the Abeokuta, Ogun state-born, son of an Imam, will translate his revelation to reality at his God’s appointed time, and on which party’s platform he will fly his presidential flag.
