Leaders of the Labour Party in Nsulu, Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area of Abia State, have shown their strong support for Governor Alex Otti. They have also set up three committees to help the party prepare for the 2027 general elections.
These decisions were made in a statement released on Monday after a detailed meeting led by the stakeholders’ chairman and the Governor’s Chief of Staff, Pastor Caleb Ajagba.
The leaders praised Otti for what they called the impressive changes happening in Abia State. They highlighted key projects in Nsulu, such as the Abia International Airport, the Umuomaiukwu Smart School, and various road projects.
They agreed to promote unity within the Labour Party in Nsulu. They emphasized that every member, regardless of when they joined, has equal standing and deserves respect, inclusion, and equal chances to help grow the party.
The statement was signed by Ajagba and the Joint Acting Secretaries, Dr Chibuzo Emeruwa and Dr Enyichukwu Olumba. They resolved to boost grassroots awareness and mobilization in all Nsulu communities. This is meant to effectively share the current government’s achievements and build support for the Labour Party ahead of the 2027 elections.
They stated, “We reaffirmed our commitment to supporting all candidates of the Labour Party at every level of the forthcoming elections. We recognize that the party’s success relies on working together, unity of purpose, and coordinated efforts.”
They welcomed the assurance from the Chief of Staff that compensation for people affected by the land acquisition for the Abia Airport has been approved. They believe all eligible beneficiaries will receive what they are owed.
The leaders also praised the government’s ongoing efforts to solve the electricity issues in Nsulu, especially in Umunna Nsulu. They are hopeful that work will start soon.
They encouraged qualified Nsulu indigenes to take advantage of numerous government programs like TECHRISE, the Abia Leadership Academy, the Abia Smart School Initiative, and other youth development programs.
To carry out their plans, the leaders approved the formation of three strategic committees: the Empowerment Committee, the Voter Education and Sensitization Committee, and the Mobilization Committee.
The Empowerment Committee will identify and coordinate eligible beneficiaries for various government empowerment, business, and training programs.
The Voter Education and Sensitization Committee will teach eligible voters about the importance of Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), collecting Permanent Voter Cards (PVC), civic involvement, and the achievements of the Labour Party-led government.
The Mobilization Committee will work to strengthen party structures on the ground, help members reconcile where needed, engage stakeholders, and rally support for all Labour Party candidates before the 2027 elections.
The leaders also called for faster completion of ongoing and planned infrastructure projects in Nsulu. They specifically mentioned important road projects and other public facilities that can help improve the area’s economy.
They urged all Labour Party members and supporters to act maturely and respectfully during the election period. They should focus on issue-based campaigns and peaceful democratic participation.
The forum thanked Ajagba for his effective leadership and dedication to developing Nsulu. They reaffirmed their commitment to work together for good governance and to strengthen democratic participation.
