Female aspirant Olaokun, declares for Agege 02 legislative arm seat under APC

(NAN) A Female Aspirant Mrs Azizat Oluokun, has declared for Agege Constituency II Lagos State House of Assembly Legislative Seat at the coming election.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Oluokun a female aspirant has officially declared her intention to contest for the Agege 02 legislative arm seat under All Progressive Congress Party.

Oluokun while given her remarks during the declaration said that her intention was to the good people of Agege 02 legislative arm with quality representation, youth and women development.

“Today I formally declared my aspiration to represent the good people of Agege 02 in the legislative arm. My focus will be on quality representation, youth/women empowerment, education, and grassroots development.

“I am here to announce to my people in my constituency, that I’m coming out and I’m an aspirant coming out to contest for the seat of the Lagos State House of Assembly under APC.

“I think the secret is good leadership. I learnt that from the Speaker Mudashiru Obasa. When you put your peg in the right hole, you get a good result.

“So, this is a structure that he has built and we are also resting on. He’s a man of honour, a man of dignity. I learnt all these in his tutelage and that is why we are seeing this turnout today.

“So far, so good. Human inclusion is what we are agitating for in our APC now. I see that a lot of women are the ones pushing the party.

There is no meeting we are doing that you will not see the women.

“I know that by the time we bring out all these women, I’m one of them. I’m their child, they are our mothers. We have mothers. We have all of us coming into this place.

“So, as it is, women’s inclusion is what we are craving for in politics,” she said.

Oluokun said that women have been agitating for more political positions for equal representation at all levels.

She added that more men have been representing the people than women in politics.

“So, in a situation where they are allowing the women to participate, I think everything will be stabilised.

“We need to do 50-50 things in politics where we are transparent to everybody as politics and power will be stabilised.

Prof. Johnson Adewara, a resident of Agege while given his remarks, urged the party members to give full support to Olaokun a highly intelligent and compassionate politician.

Adewara a Professor of Statistics at the University of Lagos urged the constituents to give a woman an opportunity to showcase her intelligence in representing them at the Lagos Assembly.

“She is a pleasant person, very intelligent and compassionate in the sense that, when I taught her, she was highly intelligent, so, I gave that role to her.

“And when she told me of her political intention for the House of Assembly seat, I assured her my moral and financial support.

“Oluokun is a reliable, strong and, let me say, a competent candidate.

“And there has been an aspiration in Nigeria now that we should give Nigerian women the opportunity to serve, look at where women have served, I will give an example, the World Trade Organization WTO.

“Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director-General WTO, you could see how she has performed excellently in Nigeria when she was finance minister and also when she went back to the World Bank.

“So, let’s give more opportunity to women to serve, to transform, to change the narrative in our society, men have been there, yes, men have been performing but let’s also include women in part of what we are doing,” the professor said.

Mrs Ganiyat Adelani, also a resident thanked Olaokun for her confidence in aspiring for the political seat.

Adelani gave assurance of full support and said the women in Agege would rally round her during the primary to claim her mandate.(NAN)
