BREAKING: Gunmen behead former Anambra lawmaker after receiving ransom

22 June, 2022

Former Anambra lawmaker Mr Nelson Achukwu has been killed and decapitated by gunmen in Anambra state after the family had parted with N15m as ransom.

The family of the physically challenged politician, who had been held captive for N15 million, discovered his headless body. According to reports, the headless body of the late Achukwu was found along the border of the states of Uke and Ukpor.

On Tuesday, June 21, 2022, his family members buried the severed body as soon as they could because the body had begun to rot.

The Anambra State Police's spokesman, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, confirmed the event and stated that the command was making every effort to apprehend those responsible.

“The victim was abducted at about 10:15pm in his house on June 9, 2022 and efforts were being made to rescue him before this unfortunate development.

“His body was found between the boundary of Uke and Ukpor communities both in Anambra.

“We are still nosing around to ensure that the culprits are uncovered and made to face the full wrath of the law,” he said.

According to a family source, the congressman informed his relatives that the assailants had falsely accused him of providing information to the military but had now released him after learning the truth.

“We couldn’t believe he would be killed after we had already paid the N15 million ransom requested by his abductors,“ the source said.
