Chief Olalekan Bakare Celebrates Life At 50

Ikate Kingdom is abuzz with excitement as Chief Olalekan Bakare, The Aro Oba Elegushi of Ikate, celebrates his 50th birthday with prayers, an Islamic lecture, the esteemed presence of His Royal Majesty, Oba Alayeluwa Saheed Ademola Elegushi, Kusenla II, and the community of Ikate Land and environs.

As the Aro of Ikate, Chief Ganiyu Olalekan Bakare has dedicated his efforts to the progress, prosperity, and unity of Ikate Kingdom and its surrounding areas. His contributions as a white-cap chief are exemplary, and his philanthropic endeavors through the Lekan Bakare Foundation are focused on enhancing marine ecosystem conservation and protection in Nigeria, with a vision to promote the sustainability of the Blue Economy in alignment with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal 14.

Chief Ganiyu Olalekan Bakare's journey to this milestone has been remarkable. After completing his first degree in Business Administration at Bayero University Kano, he furthered his studies in Germany at the BFH, Hamm, where he graduated as a Telecommunications and Electronics Engineer. He later pursued a PGD in Management at the University of Liverpool, England.

With his expertise as a distinguished Telecommunications Engineer, Chief Bakare has amassed years of experience working with renowned international organizations such as Interface Designs (Germany), Samsung (United Kingdom), Sun Microsystems (UK), Ericsson (UK), and Nationwide Building Society (Swindon, UK). His return to Nigeria led him to venture into politics in 2017 when he became the Secretary to the Apapa Local Government Council and Chairman of the Body of Secretaries to Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas in Lagos State.

Beyond his professional achievements, Chief Bakare has been a fervent advocate for climate change and the fight against plastic pollution, particularly within the coastal areas of Lagos State. His commitment to environmental sustainability showcases his dedication to the welfare of his community and the overall well-being of Nigeria.
