Reps adjourn plenary abruptly over non-availability of Order Paper

The House of Representatives has been forced to adjourn plenary over the non-availability of order paper for the day’s plenary.

The Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, who was visibly angry, said he would hold all the staff responsible for the failure of the Order Paper to be produced for Thursday’s plenary on February 3, NAN reports.

Infuriated by the development, the Speaker, expressed disappointment over the attitude of the officer in charge of the paper.

The Order Paper is a publication containing the order of bills, motions, reports, and meetings to be treated on a legislative day.

He subsequently asked that the officer be redeployed to another unit and replaced immediately.

The Speaker said: “We adjourned plenary till11.00 am today. This is 11.20 and the House cannot function without the order paper.

“Clerk, When I came in here, there was nobody on this roll. You were not here, your deputies were not here. What kind of a thing is that?

“We are now forced to adjourn the House because of that. Everybody should see me in my office. The House is adjourned to Tuesday.”

Before the adjournment, the Speaker complained that only a few lawmakers were present at the chamber.

The Speaker, therefore, called for adjournment of the plenary to Tuesday, February 8th, 2022.
