By Kazeem Akande

Alimosho General Hospital, Igando, on Wednesday held a comprehensive medical outreach for the Nigeria Police Force Area M Command in Idimu, Lagos, to improve the health and well-being of police officers.

The outreach, organised by the Friends of Alimosho General Hospital Committee in partnership with the Command, included health screenings, medical consultations, counselling sessions, and other healthcare services.

Speaking at the event, Chairman of the Committee, Dr Rukayat Ajibola-Bakare, said the initiative was aimed at extending healthcare services to partners within the community.

Ajibola-Bakare noted that the outreach, sustained for over five years, was brought to Area M Police Command because of the existing partnership with the hospital.

She commended the Medical Director of Alimosho General Hospital, Dr Akinyele Akinlade, for supporting the programme shortly after assuming office.

According to her, the medical director’s collaborative disposition and commitment to impactful initiatives contributed significantly to the success of the outreach.

Speaking earlier, the Medical Director urged police officers to prioritise their health, describing policing as a physically and mentally demanding profession.

Akinlade said the outreach was organised to ensure that officers have easy access to healthcare services and professional medical advice.

“Today, we have brought Alimosho General Hospital to you, and we want you to take advantage of the opportunity of know your health status.

He advised the officers not to wait until their health conditions become severe before seeking medical attention and regular medical checks.

According to him, early detection and intervention remain important in preventing complications associated with several health conditions.

Akinlade also encouraged officers to maximise their Health Maintenance Organisation services and make their well-being a priority.

He appreciated ACP Tokunbo Abaniwonda, the Area M Commander, for providing a conducive environment for the outreach and reaffirmed the hospital’s commitment to future collaboration.

In her remarks, Abaniwonda commended the hospital for extending its services to officers and personnel of Area M Police Command.

She noted that stronger collaboration between healthcare institutions and the police would contribute to a healthier and safer society.

“Stronger partnerships between healthcare institutions and the Police are essential to building a healthier, safer and stronger community,” she said.

The Newsmen reports that the outreach featured registration, blood sugar tests, blood pressure checks, dietary counselling and general medical consultations for participants.

Other services provided included oral health assessment, physiotherapy evaluation, eye screening, health information management and pharmaceutical services.

The programme highlighted the growing partnership between both institutions to ensure that those who protect the community have access to quality healthcare.
