Alhaji Ganiyu Egunjobi, an aspirant in the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary for Agege Constituency I of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has vowed to pursue constitutional and party channels to challenge the outcome of the exercise.

Egunjobi, who addressed newsmen on Thursday in Agege, said he had submitted a formal petition to the appropriate party organs and appeal bodies, alleging that he was denied victory in the primary election.

He said he was committed to seeking redress through legitimate means while remaining loyal to the party.

“I have submitted a formal petition to the appropriate party organs and electoral appeal bodies, presenting all relevant evidence in support of my claim,” he said.

Egunjobi, a former council chairman, expressed appreciation to party members and stakeholders who participated in the primary, commending their commitment to democracy and the ideals of the APC.

He, however, alleged that the party leadership in the state unjustly denied him victory and announced Mr Gbenga Abiola as the party’s candidate.

According to him, results from the various voting centres, as well as records available to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Department of State Services (DSS), showed that he won the election and was declared winner by electoral officials.

He urged the party leadership to review the results objectively and ensure that justice was done.

“The credibility of our internal democratic process depends on the ability of our institutions to act fairly and courageously,” he said.

Egunjobi said his actions were not intended to create division within the party but to ensure fairness, transparency and respect for the wishes of party members.

Also, Mr Fatai Bisiriyu, APC Chairman in Agege, said party members in the area had submitted a petition to the party leadership over the outcome of the primary.

Bisiriyu said the petition had been forwarded to the Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat.

“We have already taken steps to send a petition to the party leadership because we believe Egunjobi won the election.

“We are awaiting a response and will abide by whatever decision the party takes on the matter,” he said
