The Mushin Local Government Council of Lagos State has sought residents’ input on priority projects and services for inclusion in its 2027 budget.
Mr Tubosun Aruwe, Chairman of the council said this at a stakeholders’ consultative forum held on Monday in Mushin.
The Newsmen reports that the forum brought together community leaders, faith-based groups, market associations and residents to identify grassroots needs ahead of the budget presentation to the legislative council.
Aruwe said the engagement was aimed at ensuring that residents’ aspirations formed the basis of the council’s fiscal priorities.
He said the council would not submit its budget proposal to the legislative council without first obtaining inputs from stakeholders.
“As we approach 2027, as customary to the council, we must engage stakeholders before submitting our proposed budget to the legislature
“This is to obtain community inputs, identity their needs and incorporate them into the budget,” he said.
The chairman assured residents that their submissions would be considered in preparing the budget.
He said the administration remained committed to improving infrastructure and social services across the council area.
Aruwe, however, urged residents to fulfil their civic responsibilities by paying taxes and levies regularly.
He said the revenue generated was being used to execute development projects across the local government.
On the council’s challenges, Aruwe identified waste management as a major concern in Mushin and other parts of Lagos State.
“There is no government without challenges. Waste management remains a challenge in our communities, and it is prevalent across Lagos.
“We are doing our best to address it. You can see that Mushin is very clean now,” he said.
The traditional ruler of Odi-Olowo Mushin, Oba Sikirirulahi Olamide, urged the council to ensure equitable distribution of projects, noting that several streets still required government attention.
Olamide who was the Royal Father of the day at the event, also called for palliative measures to cushion the effects of ongoing economic reforms on residents.
He further urged eligible voters who had yet to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to do so.
In her remarks, Mrs Adebukola Odumokun, Head of the Budget, Planning, Research and Statistics Department of the council, described the forum as timely and successful.
Odumokun said the stakeholders’ contributions would guide the preparation of the 2027 budget.
She commended the administration’s performance in the outgoing fiscal year, particularly in infrastructure, health and education.
“In my own review, the chairman performed wonderfully well this year in terms of projects, infrastructure, health, education and other areas.
“If I were to rate him, I would give him almost 100 per cent,” she said.
Odumokun assured residents of further improvements in roads, healthcare, education and other infrastructure in the coming year.
Also speaking, Mr Moruf Alli, General Secretary of the Community Development Committee (CDC) in Mushin Local Government, commended the chairman for extending development projects to different parts of the council.
Alli described the gathering as significant, saying it provided an opportunity for residents to identify communities and areas requiring further government attention.
He urged the council to prioritise road rehabilitation and construct event and recreation centres where children and youths could engage in sporting activities.
On security, he commended the council for supporting security agencies but called for sustained efforts to improve safety across the area.
He also said the chairman had provided vehicles and logistics to support refuse evacuation during environmental sanitation exercises.
The Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Mushin Local Government, Bishop Peter Olabode, also commended Aruwe for improving community infrastructure.
Olabode called for continuity in the administration’s development efforts.
Newsmen reports that stakeholders at the forum identified roads, youth centres, security and environmental sanitation as priority areas for the council’s 2027 budget. (NAN)
