In an explosive unveiling that left Ibadan buzzing, political heavyweight Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli stepped into the ring alongside his secret weapon: Hon. Adesoji Michael Adedeji, the 46-year-old economics maven and younger brother to Nigeria’s revenue chief, Dr. Zacch Adedeji.
Dubbed the ultimate ‘2 for the Price of 1’ power ticket, this dynamic duo fuses battle-tested political mastery with youthful economic clout, bridging the ultimate gap between the bustling streets of Ibadan and the strategic heartlands of Ogbomoso. With grand promises to turbocharge local infrastructure, revamp healthcare in every corner of the state, and hand power directly back to the councils, the Alli-Adedeji wave is hitting Oyo like a freight train and the APC is betting big that this unbeatable pair will sweep the polls in 2027.
Unveiled on July 2, 2026 in Ibadan, where Alli also received the party’s nomination form, the ticket has since been framed by a single phrase “two for the price of one” — a simple catchphrase that, on closer inspection, captures the political calculation behind the pairing.
A pairing across zones
For Adesoji, an Economics graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Adesoji hails from Iwo-Ate in Ogo Oluwa Local Government Area of the Ogbomoso zone, and while family ties have brought some attention to his emergence, the APC ticket presents an opportunity for him to establish his own political footing. Unlike Alli, the longstanding politician who currently represents Oyo South in the Senate, Adedeji is relatively new to elective politics and brings a younger face and a different pedigree to the ticket. With Alli from Ibadan and Adedeji from Ogo Oluwa, the pairing carries added significance in a state where zonal balance often shapes political calculations.
Between Alli and Adesoji, Why ‘2 for 1’?
The logic behind the phrase is fairly straightforward: on one side is Alli, a seasoned politician with years in public office and legislative experience; on the other is Adedeji, a younger figure with a background in Economics and a different professional trajectory. Then there is the geographical equation — Ibadan remains the dominant centre of political gravity in Oyo State, while Adedeji’s roots in the Ogbomoso axis allow the APC to project a ticket that reaches beyond the capital. Whether that balance will translate into votes at the polls remains to be seen, but for now it gives the party a pairing that stitches different parts of the state into a single political arrangement.
What Adedeji says he wants
Since emerging as Alli’s running mate, Adedeji has begun to outline the issues he wants the ticket to champion. At a recent stakeholders’ meeting, he spoke about the need to extend infrastructure development beyond the major cities to cover Oke-Ogun, Ogbomoso, Ibarapa, Oyo and other parts of the state. He also called for functional hospitals in every local government area and for greater financial and administrative autonomy for local councils. “Every local government will receive all that is due to them,” he said. The thrust of his message is a push to decentralise development and ensure that rural and semi-urban communities are not left out of government programmes.
The politics behind the pairing
Adedeji’s emergence followed Alli’s victory in the APC governorship primary, which featured several heavyweights, including former Deputy Governor Rauf Olaniyan, Akeem Agbaje and former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu. With the primary now concluded, the challenge of uniting the party after a keenly contested race has come to the fore, a point that was evident at the unveiling ceremony where leaders repeatedly harped on unity. Oyo APC Chairman, Moses Alake Adeyemo, urged members to set aside their differences and rally behind the ticket ahead of the 2027 election. “By the grace of God, come May 29, 2027, our governor and deputy governor will be Senator Sharafadeen Alli and Hon. Adesoji Adedeji,” he said. Alli, on his part, also appealed to his former co-contestants and their supporters to close ranks. Beyond the presentation of the candidates, the real task for Alli and Adedeji will be to fuse their different backgrounds and convince both party faithful and voters across the state that they can function as a cohesive team.
Two men, one ticket
So what exactly does the APC have in Alli and Adedeji? It has a sitting senator with years of political experience and legislative exposure, paired with a younger running mate from a different part of the state. It has Ibadan and Ogo Oluwa. It has two men with distinct professional backgrounds and political temperaments now bound together on one ticket. That, in essence, is where the “2 for 1” description derives its meaning.
But a slogan, however catchy, is only one element of a political campaign. Alli and Adedeji will still have to articulate, in clear terms, what they intend to do with the mandate they seek and how their plans will address the diverse needs of Oyo State from the bustling urban centres to the more remote communities. For now, the APC has made its choice and presented its pair. The next, more demanding phase is taking that ticket to the people and selling its promise.
