A member of the African Democratic Congress, Dele Momodu, has told President Bola Tinubu to prepare for re-election in 2027 based on how well his government has performed. He said Nigerians will look at the government’s record when deciding at the polls.

Momodu spoke on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Monday. He believes the outcome of the 2027 presidential election will depend on how Nigerians view the performance of the ruling All Progressives Congress.

He stated that people do not have any personal hatred towards the President. Instead, Tinubu must show voters that his administration has brought real results.

“The 2027 election will not be difficult for Tinubu if he can show the records of his performance. Nobody hates him personally. Nobody wants to pick him out because they just don’t like him. It is about performance.

“Present your scorecards. So the people running around spreading hellfire, calm down and spread that energy on showing the performance of APC,” Momodu said.

Criticism of APC

Momodu also criticized the APC for blaming past administrations for the country’s economic and governance problems. He pointed out that the APC has been in power since 2015 and should take responsibility.

He argued that if the Tinubu government inherited a weak economy, Nigerians should judge it by the actions it has taken to improve the situation.

“What we see is APC abusing itself and its predecessors, saying they inherited a useless government and economy. I have never seen a place where a party destroys its own predecessors like APC,” he said.

Momodu questioned the government’s performance further, asking, “Now, let’s assume President Tinubu inherited a bad government. What has he done to change the direction of his predecessor and change the lives of the people?”

Comments on Obasanjo and Atiku

Momodu also shared his views on the recent comments made by former President Olusegun Obasanjo about former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. He reacted to Obasanjo’s statement that picking Atiku as his vice president was his biggest political mistake.

Momodu claimed that Obasanjo still opposes Atiku’s presidential ambitions. He believes this reflects the ongoing political dynamics in Nigeria as the 2027 election approaches.

Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party candidate Peter Obi are among the key opposition figures expected to shape the upcoming election.
