Ayobo-Ipaja LCDA embarks on Tree Planting to mark annual Tree planting Campaign
Today, Ayobo-Ipaja LCDA successfully flagged off the 2026 Annual Tree Planting Campaign at Methodist Primary School, Ipaja, under the theme: “Trees for Lagos: Our City, Our Responsibility.”
The Executive Chairman of Ayobo-Ipaja LCDA, Hon. (Dr.) Agbaje Lukmon Abiodun, who was represented by the Vice Chairman, Otunba Oladipupo Oluwaloni, urged residents to embrace tree planting as a collective responsibility towards protecting our environment, improving public health, mitigating the effects of climate change, and preventing environmental disasters.
The Vice Chairman also performed the symbolic tree planting to officially flag off the campaign, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
Mrs Rachel Adebisi, the Director, Environmental Health Services, Ayobo-Ipaja LCDA in her remarks thanked the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State and the Council Chairman Agbaje for their full support for environmental development in the state.
Adebisi said that the tree planting exercise would protect the environment through sustained and proper maintenance.
This is a collective collective responsibility that can combat climate change, reduce flooding, improve air quality, preserve biodiversity, and secure a healthier future for generations to come.
She urged residents, schools, business owners, market men and women, community associations, and especially young people to adopt the culture of planting and nurturing trees, stressing that the success of the initiative depends not only on planting trees but also on ensuring their survival through proper care.
Adebisi said that the importance of tree planting in the community could not be over emphasised as the exercise would combat climate change challenges.
Speaking at the event, the Supervisor for Environment, Hon. Olabode Samson Okeowo, reiterated the Council’s commitment to sustaining the annual tree planting initiative in line with the environmental policies and sustainable development agenda of the Lagos State Government.
Okeowo also encouraged residents, schools, community leaders, and stakeholders to actively participate in tree planting as a lasting investment in the future of Ayobo-Ipaja LCDA.
