LAHA Agege 02: Agboke on top, as community, party members ready for women representation
Agege community residents are clamouring for women representation at the coming general election to represent them at the Constituency 2, Agege.
Majority of women and party members are canvassing for Mrs Azizat Oluokun-Agboke, a competent hands who is politically intelligent having been trained by the Agege Political Guru Dr Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa the Speaker Lagos State House of Assembly.
Agboke who has passed through various tutelage from the political gladiator is ready to represent her constituency as a woman for the first time in Agege community.
According to her, we stand together as one voice, a community united, a community clamouring for justice, fairness, and inclusion.
“That call is clear, women must be represented in our state assembly from Agege 02.
“We need to acknowledge the people’s voice from the various political Wards, marketplaces to the schools, from the farms to the offices, our women have carried the weight of progress in Agege.
“They have nurtured families, built businesses, and led community initiatives. Yet, when decisions are made in the assembly, their voices are missing.
“The people are speaking, and they are saying: this must change women must be represented at the state Assembly,” she said.
Agboke also noted that representation is not charity, it is democracy. A true assembly reflects the people, men and women alike. When women are present, policies become more balanced, more humane, and more effective.
She added that the clamour of people today is not noise; it is the sound of justice demanding to be heard.
“I urge every party member, every leader, and every citizen: let us answer this call. Let us open doors for intelligent women to contest, to win, and to lead. Let us reform our structures so that women are not sidelined but celebrated.
“The community is ready, the people are ready, now the assembly must be ready too to welcome more intelligent women at the seat of lawmaking,” she said.
According to her, history will judge us not by the speeches we give, but by the actions we take. Let us rise to this moment and ensure that women’s representation is no longer a demand, but a reality.
Agboke said that through women representation, together Agege could build a community that truly mirrors the strength and diversity of people.
Prof. Adewale Adewara, a Professor of Statistics, University of Lagos has said during the official declaration of Agboke for the Assembly seat, that we should engage more women in every sector of life be it academic, political and economic.
“Presently our women needed to be engaged in most of the sectors to show their skills, capacity and their intelligence.
Agboke is a good product for the Agege community because she’s loyal, intelligent and politically sound that every resident will benefit from if elected.
She is educated, I taught her at the university and when you look at our society we really need highly intelligent people especially women to run some of the affairs to ensure more efficiency and accountability.
“Let’s look at it from our culture, our culture has relegated women before, but now, with the current dispensations and development in the entire world, women are now playing a vital role in governance, politics and representation.
“In Liberia a woman became the president of Liberia, liberated Liberia and changed the narrative in Liberia where the world has ravaged the country and the woman went there and rebuilt the entire country.
“Likewise, in many developed countries, be it England, be it America women have been doing fantastically well, so, to me, I recommend Agboke for the betterment of the community.
“Because in Nigeria, the statistics of women participating in politics are so low Maybe like five to 10 per cent, but if it can be encouraged and moved to 20, 30, 40 per cent, it could be okay, 40 to 60 per cent let’s give women a chance and let’s change the narrative, let’s change the system and see what we get,” he said.
